Marbella’s €200 Million Marina Transformation Moves Forward

The project will involve an investment of more than €200 million and will almost triple the marina’s capacity, increasing the number of berths from 268 to approximately 750.
Crucially for Marbella’s international positioning, the expanded marina will be capable of accommodating yachts and other vessels measuring up to 70 metres.
A major new investment in Marbella
The transformation is far more extensive than a simple enlargement of the existing port.
Plans announced by Marbella Town Hall include a new marina, a 1.13-kilometre main breakwater, a 450-metre secondary breakwater, upgraded marine services, commercial areas, a boatyard and approximately 1,000 parking spaces.
The project also incorporates environmental measures and works intended to help protect and regenerate nearby beaches.
The new concessionaire is expected to assume responsibility for the existing facilities from 1 January 2027.
The announcement is particularly significant because the proposed expansion has faced administrative, environmental and legal obstacles for many years. The award of the new concession therefore represents an important step beyond the earlier plans and discussions surrounding the site.
Why yachting infrastructure matters to Marbella
Marbella is already internationally recognised for its luxury homes, climate, golf courses, restaurants and lifestyle. Its nautical infrastructure, however, has not developed at the same pace as some competing Mediterranean destinations.
The expanded Puerto de La Bajadilla should help address that gap.
The ability to receive larger yachts will broaden Marbella’s appeal to international visitors and property owners who regard access to high-quality marina facilities as an important part of their lifestyle.
It should also create new commercial, hospitality and employment opportunities while bringing additional investment into the city.
Complementing Puerto Banús
Puerto Banús will remain Marbella’s best-known marina and one of its most recognisable international landmarks.
The expansion of La Bajadilla should be viewed as complementary rather than competing infrastructure. It gives Marbella additional capacity, including space for larger vessels, while potentially encouraging further modernisation across the city’s other marinas.
Together, these facilities can help Marbella develop a stronger and more varied nautical offering.
A long-term vote of confidence
Large infrastructure projects require time, and the ultimate benefit will depend on the development progressing from concession to construction and completion.
Nevertheless, an investment commitment exceeding €200 million represents a significant vote of confidence in Marbella’s long-term future.
For property buyers, it is another indication that Marbella continues to evolve as a year-round international destination. For existing owners, it adds to the quality and breadth of the lifestyle that supports demand for property across the area.
The transformation of La Bajadilla will not change Marbella overnight. It does, however, have the potential to become one of the most important additions to the city’s luxury infrastructure in many years.
